Thistle Street is a hub of unique well-known and independent designer shops that seems to be overlooked. I touched on the topic of introducing simple yet functional, and affordable, Scandinavian designs from Kakao by K (see previous post here). Another one which can’t be missed is Covet which opened its doors in November 2007.
After 9 years of cherry picking quality designer handbags and accessories from all over Europe (such as Dyrberg/Kern, Laura Orchant, Coccinelle and Olga Berg to name a few) and establishing a reputation as Edinburgh’s go to shop for handbags and accessories, best friends and Directors Anna Somerville and Blaise Donald are now proud to present their very first COVET brand handbag collection. Bloggers in Edinburgh were recently invited to an exclusive evening where we got our first glimpse of the beautiful Italian leather bags handcrafted in Spain.
The capsule collection includes 3 different styles of bags made from Italian leather, handcrafted in Spain. The bags are functional and versatile and will suit ladies attending various occasions whether it be for work, a wedding or a more formal event. Compared to designer handbags we save up to afford for the brand name and well-known styles, Covet’s first collection of handbags are surprisingly affordable for the high quality craftsmanship. The bags all feature a subtle embossed design which doesn’t hinder appreciation of the style and beautiful colour of the bags themselves.
Anna and Blaise explain,
“After listening to our customers tell us what they want, we have created a capsule collection of beautiful, quality, luxury handbags at an affordable price, which we hope they will love.”
The New Town bag is a versatile everyday bag to house every woman’s needs whether it be a busy mother running errands after dropping her children off at school or a businesswoman keeping all her important documents and personal belongings on her way to work. The hobo style bag is available in 2 sizes and 8 colours (5 in matte and 3 in metallic leather) can be worn as a shoulder bag with the shorter strap, or converted to a cross body bag with the longer adjustable strap which is also provided. The bag also features a zipped outer pocket and exposed top zip.
The Edinburgh bag is definitely my favourite. Available in 7 metallic leather colours an 5 matte colours, this bag is truly the most versatile of the 3 styles. The bag comes with a long strap and has 2 sets of D-rings, one in the middle and one set at the top corners. The bag can be worn as a cross body bag (with the adjustable strap hooked into the middle D-rings on the fold), opened up as a dual pocketed messenger bag (strap hooked to the top corner rings, or folded and carried as an oversized folded clutch with the strap detached.
The Essential Clutch is also available in 7 metallic and 5 matte colours and is the equivalent to an oversized wristlet. The Clutch bag comes with a wrist strap attached the exposed zip and has an internal zipped pocket. For a handy sized bag to hold all your essentials for a date or night out with the girls, the Essential Clutch is the perfect bag to grab and go while also giving you enough room to hold more makeup, your mobile phone and other essentials.
All 3 styles of bags in the capsule collection feature beautiful jewel tone colours (and names to match, like Sapphire, Onyx, Metallic Turquoise, Metallic Amethyst, Ruby and Emerald) that will not disappoint.
Compared to designer bag prices, the Covet bags are definitely a lot more affordable. For the luxuriously soft Italian leather, precious gemstone-inspired colours and versatile designs, it’s hard to resist supporting local designers. I had a Michael Kors bag in sight that I was really tempted to buy, but knowing that by paying an extra £30 I can get a larger sized bag and in the same beautiful champagne colour called Platinum (it’s a versatile shade between champagne gold and silver it’s such a beautiful pale metallic and also comes in rose gold too!), I now can’t the Edinburgh bag out of my mind.
The Covet capsule collection of handbags are available for pre-order in store and on their site here and will be available for pick up in store (or delivered if you ordered online) at the beginning of October.
If you prefer to see the bags in person to decide on the perfect colour, you can stop by the shop at 20 Thistle Street to speak to any of the wonderful ladies there.
Thank you to everyone at Cover for a lovely event and for a preview of the bags!
