Zomato meets 48 Below: a night of cocktails and comedy

I was invited by the Zomato team to an event at 48 Below, so aptly named for it’s location under the Phoenix Bar at 48 Broughton Street. On a Friday night when you’re looking for fun and some drinks with friends, the venue in collaboration with The Line Up will surely entertain you with tales of woe that will really make you laugh, I promise!

The bar can easily seat 30 customers and are licensed to hold up to 50. Every first and third Friday of the month, the guys from The Line Up: Below work their sense of humour on the crowd. Poor Andrea was picked on because she was sitting at the front as well as for something she mentioned at the beginning of the night, but I’ll not bandy her story about.

I’m not a big fan of stand up comedy only because most of the time you get some hits and some misses. At previous shows I’ve been to, even the most experienced of comedians (that have their own live stand up show on TV) fail to make me laugh. Some of the folk that were presenting their material were quite good though and we all had a great time.

I’m not much for cocktails, only because I shy away from really strong tasting liqueur. The cocktail of the evening for those attending under Zomato were given a free espresso cocktail which I declined (I’m not a coffee drinker either if it’s the bitter kind). In exchange I was offered a lovely salted caramel martini.

The drink was garnished with chocolate shavings which I thought was a nice touch. The martini was quite strong, but I did enjoy the drink. I do think if I were to recommend a bar for a night of fun to friends or tourists, 48 Below during comedy night is the way to go!

The Line Up: Below is held on the first and third Friday of every month at 8:30pm and The Line Up: First Offence is held every Wednesday at 8pm for £1. Both events are held at 48 Below, 48 Broughton Street, EH1 3SA and you’re guaranteed a night of laughter and decently priced cocktails and booze.
