Never judge a book by its cover

I’m a big advocate of everyone being happy with who they are. You can work as hard as you want to get the figure you’ve always dreamed of or to be your ideal ‘self’ physically, but if you can’t find happiness in your life, it won’t make you a happy person.

To be happy, everyone needs to be feel supported in what they do and find the inner strength to achieve what they’re working to. Sometimes, it gets overwhelming and it’s that support circle that gives someone strength, to feel like they’re not shouldering the burden alone. It is for this reason when I saw a post by Dan Cohen, Co-Director of the Les Mills BodyCombat programme, I couldn’t help but re-post his quote.

Not everyone suffers from physical disabilities. Sometimes, the friends and family around you are having issues with mental health instead and it’s not a bad thing. It doesn’t mean they’re ‘mentally unstable’ or ‘weak’. Everyone has a point where they’re not able to shoulder all the stress and negative events in their life anymore. This makes us all human.

We need to show more understanding and support to those around us that are suffering from mental health issues. If everyone were more open about their experiences and what issues they deal with on a daily basis, you’ll be surprised how many people have body and mind issues that we refuse to talk about.

This brings me on nicely to my guest blog post next week, so stay tuned!
