Singing in the rain…with a bonny brolly!

People like to comment on the natural scents that they enjoy: the smell of the fresh air, that of freshly cut grass, the beautiful perfume of flowers. While I can appreciate the aroma of flowers like lillies and wysteria, I’ve found that the scent of the rain is quite pleasing. I don’t appreciate the smell of dampness coming from people’s clothes from havng gotten soaked, but the smell of the crisp air, from the safety of being indoors, that doesn’t cause you to feel chilled from breathing in the frosty air gives me a sense of calm that I can truly appreciate.

I used to detest getting soaked, I disliked it so much I didn’t like going outdoors when it was raining heavily. Summertime means rainstorm season in Hong Kong with heavy rainfall, so much so it might as well have been monsoon season. Here in Edinburgh, there’s not really any use investing in an umbrella, with the strong gale-like winds during autumn you can wave goodbye to your umbrella within a few weeks of using it for the first time. There are times like now though, where rain in the UK is a relatively peaceful time, especially if you like being outside while looking great, the only thing that can compliment your outfit on this wet day is by carrying a beautiful brolly.

Women, mainly as a rule, like to dress to impress throughout the 4 seasons. Here in Scotland, or Edinburgh in particular, it’s a running joke that you can experience all forms of weather in a day: sunny with bouts of showers during the morning, heavy winds in the afternoon and cool temperatures in the evening. If we’re dressing up in the winter, wearing our favourite dress with a thick, warm woollen coat, why let the dark clouds affect your mood? Since getting the small silver Panarea from Dior, I’ve really come to notice how what you wear and carry can really affect your mood, no matter the weather. The pale silver colour really brightens my mood and is such a versatile colour, no matter what occasion I’m carrying it to or what I wear. I believe carrying an umbrella that is an extension of your personality not only brightens up your day, or passer-bys who can enjoy the visual stimulation, but you can also make a fashion statement in the rain!

Have you got a favourite brolly? If you got to choose, what would you have on yours to match your personality or style?
